The Pirates to Panthers (P2P) Academy is a collaboration between Florida Institute of Technology and Palm Bay Magnet High School designed to prepare students for success in industries unique to Florida’s Space Coast. Students who participate in the program gain high-quality, hands-on education experience at the high school and college levels, preparing them for careers of the future.
While Florida Tech offers dual enrollment as an option for all Brevard County Public School students, the P2P program is currently available to students who attend Palm Bay Magnet High School only.
Benefits of the P2P Academy
Students admitted to the program earn college credit from a prestigious national, doctoral-granting research university at no cost to them.
Additional benefits include:
- Hands-on, college-level experience in science, engineering, business, aeronautics, psychology and liberal arts while still in high school
- Enhanced credentials prior to applying for admission to four-year universities
- Access to stellar faculty and state-of-the-art research and laboratories
- Guaranteed admission to a Florida Tech degree program if you complete at least 6 semester credit hours and achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in your courses at Florida Tech
Additional Program Opportunities
- Work experiences in student’s field of interest.
- Successful completion of a student- driven, school-based senior project that seeks to solve a problem and provide solutions to improve some aspect of Palm Bay Magnet High School.
- Mentorship program with local industry experts in student’s interested fields.
Details
To enter the P2P Academy, interested students must submit the following to PBMHS:
- EPO magnet application for nonzoned students.
- Academic records.
- A minimum of two teacher recommendations.
- A one-page, properly formatted essay that outlines why the student feels they will be a good fit for the program.
Prior to the end of their sophomore year, students in the P2P Academy must meet Florida Tech’s dual enrollment requirements, which can be found at floridatech.edu/dual-enrollment
Successful completion of the P2P Academy will require the following of the student:
- Scoring a min. of 1100 on SAT in March of Sophomore year
- Retention of a cumulative 3.0 unweighted GPA throughout all four years of the program.
While at the high school, students must take academically rigorous coursework in core academic classes.
